Jacob Joseph Pugsley (born January 25, 1838 in Dutchess County , New York , †  February 5, 1920 in Hillsboro , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1891 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jacob Pugsley came to Ohio with his parents as early as 1839, where he later studied at Miami University in Oxford . After studying law and becoming a lawyer, he began working in this profession in Dayton . He later moved his home and practice to Hillsboro, Highland County . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1880 and 1883 he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives ; in 1886 and 1887 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the 1886 congressional election , Pugsley was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the twelfth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Albert C. Thompson on March 4, 1887 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1891 . In 1890 he renounced another candidacy. After his time in the US House of Representatives, Jacob Pugsley no longer appeared politically. He died on February 5, 1920 in Hillsboro, where he was also buried.
