Leroy T. Marshall

Leroy Tate Marshall (born November 8, 1883 in Bellbrook , Ohio , †  November 22, 1950 in Xenia , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1933 and 1937 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Born on a farm in Greene County , Leroy Marshall attended the public schools in his homeland. Between 1903 and 1907 he taught there himself as a teacher. In 1909 he graduated from Cedarville College . He then moved to Xenia, where he was employed by the Greene County Courts from 1909 to 1913. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession in Xenia. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1920 and 1932 he was their district chairman in Greene County. From 1925 to 1928 he was a member of the Ohio Senate .

In the 1932 congressional election , Marshall was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Charles Brand on March 4, 1933 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1937 . In 1936 it was not confirmed. During his time in Congress, many of the New Deal laws of the federal government under President Franklin D. Roosevelt were passed, which Marshall's party was rather hostile to. In 1935 the provisions of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution were applied for the first time , according to which the legislative period of the Congress ends or begins on January 3rd.

After his time in the US House of Representatives ended, Leroy Marshall practiced law again. He died on November 22, 1950 in Xenia, where he was also buried.
