Charles Adams Mosher (born May 7, 1906 in Sandwich , DeKalb County , Illinois , †  November 16, 1984 in Oberlin , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1961 and 1977 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Mosher attended Sandwich High School and then graduated from Oberlin College in 1928 . Between 1929 and 1940 he worked in Aurora and Janesville ( Wisconsin ) in the newspaper business. He then became President and Manager of the Oberlin Printing Company . From 1940 to 1961 he published the Oberlin News-Tribune newspaper. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . From 1945 to 1951 he was deputy chairman of the Oberlin City Council; between 1951 and 1960 he was a member of the Ohio Senate . He was also a member of the Legislative Service Commission between 1947 and 1959 . In 1955, he was a delegate to the White House Conference on Education , an educational conference convened by President Dwight D. Eisenhower . He also held other local offices in Oberlin and Ohio.

In the 1960 congressional elections , Mosher was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 13th  constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Albert David Baumhart on January 3, 1961 . After seven re-elections, he was able to complete eight legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1977 . From 1967 to 1969 he was a member of the Presidential Commission on Marine Science, Engineering and Resources . His time in Congress included the Vietnam War , the civil rights movement and, in 1974, the Watergate affair . In 1976 he renounced another candidacy.

Between 1977 and 1979 he served as Executive Director for the Science and Technology Convention Committee. In 1980 he worked for the Woodrow Wilson Center at the Smithsonian Institution . He died on November 16, 1984 in Oberlin, where he was also buried.
