Robert Eugene Cook (born May 19, 1920 in Kent , Ohio , †  November 28, 1988 in Portage County , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1959 and 1963 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Cook attended Kent State High School until 1938 . In 1942 and 1946 he served in the Air Corps of the United States Army Air Forces during World War II . After the war he studied at Kent State University until 1947 . After studying law at the William and Mary School of Law in Williamsburg ( Virginia ) and being admitted to the bar in 1950, he began to work in this profession. Between 1952 and 1959 he was a district attorney in Portage County. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the 1958 congressional election , Cook was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eleventh constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded David S. Dennison on January 3, 1959 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1963 . These were shaped by the events of the Cold War . The climax of these events was the Cuban Missile Crisis in autumn 1962. In 1962 he was not re-elected.

Between 1963 and 1969, Robert Cook served as an appellate judge in Portage County; from 1969 to 1988 he was a member of the court of appeal in the eleventh judicial district of his state. He died on November 28, 1988 and was buried in his native Kent.
