Seth W. Brown

Seth W. Brown (born January 4, 1841 in Waynesville , Warren County , Ohio , †  February 24, 1923 in Lebanon , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1901 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Seth Brown attended public schools in his home country. During the Civil War , he served in an Ohio infantry unit that was part of the Union Army . He then worked in the newspaper business for some time. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1873, he began to work in this profession in Waynesville. Between 1880 and 1883 he was a prosecutor in the local Warren County. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . From 1883 to 1887 he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives .

In the congressional election of 1896 Brown was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded George W. Hulick on March 4, 1897 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1901 . During this time the Spanish-American War of 1898 fell . In 1900 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Seth Brown practiced as a lawyer in Lebanon and Cincinnati . He also wrote treatises on political issues. He died in Lebanon on February 24, 1923.
