Al-Anfāl ( Arabic الأنفال al-Anfāl  'The Prey') is the eighth sura of the Koran , it contains 75 verses . The sura is one of the parts of the Koran that was fullyrevealedin Medina . Their title refers to the first verse.

The unity of the content of Sura 8 results from the fact that all the events mentioned in it took place between the emigration to Medina in 622 and the defeat at the Battle of Uhud in 625. The beginning of the sura, up to verse 19, contains explanations about the distribution of the booty after the battle of Badr (624), and mentions other events from this battle. Immediately before Muhammad's emigration, his opponents from the Quraish tribe in Mecca, after initial disagreement, came up with the plan for his murder. Verse 30 refers to it, which begins as follows: "Back when the unbelievers were plotting against you in order to arrest you or even to kill you or to drive you away." The holy mosque mentioned in verse 34 is the al-Haram mosque in Mecca . After the condemnation of the unfaithful allies in Medina (verses 55 to 58), the Koran in verses 59 to 66 calls for a fight against the polytheists . The following five verses contain information about the treatment of the prisoners and the use of the booty after the Battle of Badr. From verse 72, the sura ends with a description of the Muslim community in Medina, distinguishing four groups of emigrants, including the Ansār (helpers).
