Antonino Giovanni Ribisi (born December 17, 1974 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actor .

Life

Giovanni Ribisi and his twin sister, actress Marissa Ribisi , are children of the film producer and agent Gay Ribisi. His younger sister Gina Ribisi is also an actress. The family has Italian ancestors. Giovanni Ribisi took acting classes at the Beverly Hills Playhouse.

Ribisi was married to the actress Mariah O'Brien from 1997 to 2001, with whom he has a daughter (* 1997). Then he had a relationship with Carla Azar, musician and drummer for the band Autolux . On June 22nd, 2012 it was announced that he had secretly married the British top model Agyness Deyn . In 2015, both announced the separation. Before that, Ribisi had a relationship with singer Cat Power for four years . His brother-in-law is the musician Beck .

Ribisi is a member of Scientology .

Career

Ribisi made his television debut in a double episode of the series An Angel on Earth in 1985. This was followed by other supporting roles and guest appearances in various US television series such as A Terribly Nice Family , Wonderful Years and The X-Files - The Scary Cases of the FBI .

In 1995 Ribisi played for the first time in a movie: In Wes Craven's horror film Mindripper , he was seen in a supporting role. In the globally successful sitcom Friends he played the role of Frank Buffay Jr. , Phoebe Buffay's ( Lisa Kudrow ) younger brother, from 1995 to 2003 , which increased his fame considerably.

Parallel to his engagement with Friends , he had roles in the films That Thing You Do! (1996) by and with Tom Hanks , Lost Highway (1997) by director David Lynch and in Kevin Costner's Postman (1997). His breakthrough came in Steven Spielberg's war film Saving Private Ryan (1998) as T-4 Medic Irwin Wade . After that, he was heard as a narrator, directed by Sofia Coppola in The Virgin Suicides (1999), then he got the role of John in Lost in Translation where he next (2003), Bill Murray , Scarlett Johansson and Anna Faris was seen . In 2000 he was in front of the camera with Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie in Just 60 Seconds as Kip Raines . In the same year he starred on the side of Cate Blanchett , Katie Holmes and Keanu Reeves in the mystery thriller The Gift - The Dark Gift . In 2003 he also had a supporting role in Road to Cold Mountain, and in 2007 he was nominated for an Emmy for his guest role on the television series My Name Is Earl . In 2009, Ribisi embodied the criminal Alvin Karpis in Public Enemies . In the same year he was seen as Parker Selfridge in the second most financially successful film of all time, Avatar .

In 2012 Ribisi starred in the comedy Ted , directed by Seth MacFarlane . Also directed by MacFarlane, he starred in the sitcom Dads from 2013 to 2014 and in the 2014 western comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West .

For the film Some Girl (1998) Ribisi recorded a song with his film partner Juliette Lewis . In 2006 Ribisi appeared in the video for Crystal Ball by the English band Keane .

From 2015 Ribisi took on the lead role in the series Sneaky Pete , the first season of  which was broadcast on Amazon Video in early 2017 .
