history
Aschen was first mentioned in 1350. In the following century, it was mentioned several times. In 1490 the small moated castle was owned by the Lords of Rotenstein. In 1508 a Barbara von Rotenstein sold the farm to Aschen to her brother-in-law, the Rotenfels Vogt Hans von Friedlingen. In 1526 the Memmingen contract was signed by a Michel Herrman vom Aschen. In 1580 the Aschen estate was sold to the Kempten prince monastery . In 1819 there were two properties in Aschen with 16 residents who belonged to the Lenzfried team . In 1848 a farm burned down. In 1900 there were two properties with 18 residents. On August 1, 1954, Aschen had 8 residents.
Aschen Castle
The small moated castle Aschen was first mentioned in writing in 1490. The exact year of construction is unknown. The small complex was protected by an artificial moat. The castle researcher Otto Merkt found remains of walls and moats. The castle can be recognized on a city view from 1559 as a small castle with one smaller and one slightly larger tower in the corners of the wall. It is unclear when the castle fell into disrepair. In 1791 the castle was mentioned as a destroyed castle of the prince monastery Kempten. To the east of it, in what is now a basin, was the cinderella pond, which was probably used for carp breeding.
