Steufzgen is a district of the independent city of Kempten (Allgäu) . The district is located in the west of the city and is characterized by a mixed development of residential and commercial space. The dammed Steufzger Weiher, which was named after the district, is located centrally to east in Steufzgen.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1380. The Trinity Chapel was built around 1735 . With the establishment of a stop on the Kempten – Isny railway line in 1909, residential buildings were quickly built.
On October 1, 1934, Steufzgen was spun off from the town of Sankt Lorenz and joined together with other localities in the town of Kempten.
With the development of Steufzgen with a dense development in the 1960s, the Steufzger Weiher was dammed for the first time . In 1978 the Roman Catholic parish church of St. Francis was consecrated.
From 2005 the former Allgäu soap and soda factory was demolished . A major fire raged there in January 2005. The last remains were removed in early summer 2014. The factory halls were shut down in the mid-1980s.
