Tannen is a hamlet and part of the independent city of Kempten (Allgäu) .

The first mention of the place was in the year 1373. It concerned a sale of an estate for "Tann" to the prince monastery Kempten . It was mentioned as a fiefdom. In 1526 two people from Tannen signed the Memming Treaty , the place called "Thannen" belonged to the parish of Betzigau .

In 1816 Daniel Bonifaz von Haneberg , later bishop in Speyer , was born in the small town. In 1818, Tannen was added to the newly formed municipality of Sankt Mang , and a year later statistics named three residential buildings and ten residents.

In the years 1851 to 1852, the greatest exploitation of the quarry on the Lenzfrieder mountain ridge occurred during the construction of the railway . Grauwacke was dismantled . Then the quarries were abandoned.
