Location of Bockarten in Kempten (Allgäu)

Bockarten is a hamlet and at the same time a district of the independent city of Kempten (Allgäu) . Bockarten belonged to the municipality of Sankt Mang until 1972 , which was added to Kempten that year. The hamlet takes its name from the farm owner. The farm used to be called Giselmars.

history

In 1247 today's place was mentioned as "Giselmars" during negotiations about ownership rights to a piece of forest. Giselmars belonged to Waggeg Castle . A mention similar to the current name took place in 1451, when a Haintz Bokhart owned an estate at "Gyselmarß". In 1469 Bockharten was sold to a knight named Kaspar von Laubenberg. The Memmingen Treaty was co- signed by Hans and Paul Bockharts in 1526. In 1584 Bockharten was sold to Kempten Abbey .

In 1819 there were four properties with 20 residents. Then Bock Harts belonged to the captaincy Lenzfried . In 1900 the population increased by two. In 1954 the hamlet had 24 inhabitants.
