In 1368 a "Hans Swaboltzsberch" was mentioned, in 1383/90 "Schwabelsperg". Schwabelsberg was the seat of an insignificant rulership, the local family was named from 1368 to 1405. There it owned a castle stable with a pond and a building yard, a monastery fiefdom .

In 1518 Schwabelsberg Castle, which was probably built in the 14th or 15th century, was acquired by Prince Abbot Rudolf von Raitnau . A short time later it became the seat of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Anna. Around 1658 a prince abbot had the building converted into a monastery. After the destruction of the monastery in Kempten, Schwabelsberg served as the seat of the convent. The dilapidated St. Anna chapel was rebuilt under Prince Abbot Engelbert von Syrgenstein . It is now profaned.
