Rappenscheuchen is a hamlet in the district of St. Lorenz von Kempten (Allgäu) . Rappenscheuchen belonged to the independent rural community of St. Lorenz from 1818 to 1972. At the census on May 25, 1987, 29 people lived in the hamlet in six buildings with living space with eight apartments.

According to the house statistics around 1800, the four properties of Rappenscheuchen at that time had a combined area of 184.90 daily work , or 63.0 hectares .

history

In contrast to many other districts of Kempten and the surrounding area, a place or farm called Rappenscheuchen is neither mentioned in a fief book from 1451 nor in the Memmingen Treaty of 1526. The first written mention takes place in the register report of a Turkish tax payment in 1593.

In April 1525, farmers chose the Prince Abbey of Kempten as their main target during the German Peasants' War . A farmer Rappenschech or Rappenscheich from Hirschdorf stands out when it comes to the plundering of the monastery .

Because of a retaliatory measure by the aristocratic patrol troops, the farm of this farmer was looted in November 1525. The farmer himself was imprisoned at Neuchâtel Castle near Durach and tortured. Rappenscheich refused to promise to pay homage and obedience to the prince abbot and did not want to pay an atonement of 100 guilders. At the request of his relatives, the farmer was released in 1526. In the Memmingen contract, the following names appear again among the obligated and bonded of the St. Lorenz parish : Anthoni Rappenscheich, Heintz Rappenscheich, Matthäus Rappenscheich.

Rappenscheuchen belonged to the Hauptmannschaft Hirschdorf , whose area was initially incorporated into the city of Kempten in 1802 and became part of the newly formed municipality of Sankt Lorenz in 1818 , which in turn was incorporated into Kempten in 1972.

According to the census of 1875, there were 12 inhabitants in the wasteland of Rappenscheuchen. In 1961 Rappenscheuchen was classified as a hamlet and had 16 inhabitants.

At the 1987 census, Rappenscheuchen, now part of the city of Kempten, had a population of 29.
