history

The contained spring of the former mineral bath

For centuries there was a small mineral bath in the Eich , which used a low mineralized healing spring for spa treatments. This medicinal bath is documented from 1593. Until 1841, the water from a spring on the slope was used for treatments.

In 1760 the later so-called Kremser Villa was built, which was his main building until the end of the bath. From 1850 the building served as the director's apartment for the textile factory in Kottern , which was located on the other bank of the Iller and was operated until the early 1990s. Shortly after the Kottern textile factory closed, the owner sold the villa to the municipal housing company, Sozialbau. In 1996 the vacant Kremser villa was placed under monument protection. The villa burned down on April 23, 1999. It was believed that children igniting the fire caused the fire. The fire ruin was demolished in 2000; an outbuilding soon afterwards. The social building, as the owner of the burned building, was planning a new building at that time, which was based on the previous villa, but was not realized.

Farm buildings above the banks of the Iller, which are now used for apartments, have been preserved from the historical complex of the bath and villa.

According to the house statistics around 1800, Eich consisted of five properties (three farms, the landlord and the "Kronenwirt") with a total area of 233.34 days of work , which corresponds to 79.51 hectares .

In the course of the formation of the community , the Eich was combined with around 115 other localities to form the rural community of St. Lorenz . By a resolution of October 1, 1934, St. Lorenz lost the village of Eich (and more than 20 other localities) back to Kempten.
