Asten ( listen ? / I ) ( Brabant Ááste ) is a municipality in the province of Noord-Brabant . The municipality forms part of the Samenwerkingsverband Regio Eindhoven , an institution that is similar to a district administration in Germany. Audio file / audio sample

Location and economy

Asten is about 10 km from Helmond and 20 km from Eindhoven . Bus line 20 connects these two cities with Asten.

The world-famous Royal Bell Foundry Eijsbouts is located in Asten . In 1993 the world's largest bell , a gift from Queen Elizabeth II to New Zealand , was cast here.

Agriculture with arable farming and pig fattening is also important.

Franciscan monastery in Asten

The Glockenspielmuseum (Nationaal Beiaardmuseum), the neo-Gothic Church of Our Lady (OL Vrouwe), based on a design by Caspar Franssen at the end of the 19th century, and the town hall built in 1940 based on plans by Alexander Jacobus Kropholler are well worth seeing .

A large part of the De Groote Peel National Park , an upland moor area that is accessible by hiking trails, is located in the municipality .

Remaining settlements

Heusden (about 2510 inhabitants, 3 km south of Asten) and Ommel (about 1075 inhabitants).

politics

The CDA won the last municipal council election in 2018. In the legislative period from 2018 to 2022, the coalition consists of the parties Algemeen Belang, CDA and Leefbaar Asten.
