geography

The village is located in the valley of the Hirtenbach, a left tributary of the Sulzach . The place is surrounded by grassland with isolated trees and arable land, which is called Haderfeld in the southwest and Birkenfeld in the northeast. In the east, behind the fields, are the Untere Haid and Kohlplatte forest areas.

Community roads lead to Krapfenau (1 km south) and Volkertsweiler (1 km northwest) to the district road AN 41 and to Metzlesberg (1.3 km north). An agricultural traffic route leads to the Oberlottermühle (2 km east).

history

On November 16, 1334 the Truchsess von Wilburgstetten, Rabeno, gave the custodian of Feuchtwangen some manorial slopes from Bernau to the vicarie of Emperor Karl . On October 16, 1414, Wilhelm Hofer, a citizen of Dinkelsbühl, exchanged a property in Bernau with Feuchtwangen Abbey .

Bernau was in the Fraisch district of the Ansbach Oberamt Feuchtwangen . In 1732 there were 10 properties with 14 teams (3 half yards, 3 half yards each with double crew, 3 estates, 1 estate with double crew). The village and community rulership was held by the Feuchtwangen monastery administrator , which was also the sole landlord of all properties. By the end of the Old Kingdom nothing had changed in the circumstances. From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the Justice and Chamber Office Feuchtwangen .

With the community edict (early 19th century), Bernau was assigned to the Heilbronn tax district and the Krapfenau rural community . As part of the regional reform , Bernau was incorporated into Feuchtwangen on July 1, 1971.
