history
The place name is probably derived from the Old High German word Krapfo , which means hump, curve or rounding, which probably means the course of the Sulzach.
Krapfenau was in the Fraisch district of the Ansbach Oberamt Feuchtwangen . In 1732 the place consisted of 13 properties with 17 teams. The village and community rule was exercised by the Feuchtwangen monastery administrator . The landlords were the Feuchtwangen monastery administration office (4 properties with a double crew, 6 properties, 1 small house with a forge), the Feuchtwangen caste office (1 small house with a tap) and the hospital of the imperial city of Dinkelsbühl ( Krapfenauer Mühle ). There was also 1 Ansbach customs post, 1 school and 1 shepherd's house. Nothing in these conditions changed until the end of the Old Kingdom . From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the Justice and Chamber Office Feuchtwangen .
With the community edict (early 19th century) Krapfenau was assigned to the Heilbronn tax district . A little later the rural community of Krapfenau was formed, to which the places Bernau , Hainmühle , Hammerschmiede , Krapfenauer Mühle , Koppenschallbach , Lotterhof , Oberlottermühle , Sankt Ulrich , Schönmühle , Unterlottermühle , Volkertsweiler , Wehlmäusel and Weikersdorf belonged. It was subject to the Feuchtwangen Regional Court in terms of administration and jurisdiction . Eschenlach was later changed from Dentlein am Forst to Krapfenau. The municipality had an area of 14,574 km². In the course of the regional reform in Bavaria (April 1, 1971) to Feuchtwangen.
