Betchat ( Gascognisch : Bèthhag ) a French commune with 333 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ariège department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Girons and the canton of Portes du Couserans (until 2015: canton of Saint-Lizier ). The inhabitants are called Betchatois .
geography
Betchat is about 50 kilometers west-northwest of Foix . The small river Lens delimits the municipality to the north. Betchat is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Escoulis in the north, Cérizols in the north and north-east, Fabas in the north-east, Bédeille and Bagert in the east, Mercenac in the south-east, Prat-Bonrepaux , Lacave and La Bastide-du-Salat in the south, Touille in the west and Marsoulas and Cassagne to the northwest.
