history
Settlement in Gallo-Roman times is likely due to the place names Vic (Latin Vicus) and Oust (Latin Augustus or Celtic Ustou). In the 8th century the place was plundered and destroyed by the Sarrazenen. In the Middle Ages, the place was within the province of Couserans, which in turn was part of the province of Gascony. The parish was part of the Saint-Girons district from 1793 to 1801. In addition, Oust was the capital of the canton of Oust from 1793 to 2015 . The parish has been assigned to the Arrondissement of Saint-Girons since 1801. Oust was created in its present form in 1969 through the merger of Oust (1968: 410 inhabitants) and Vic (1968: 31 inhabitants).
