history
The discovery of amphorae from the Gallo-Roman period proves early settlement. Further finds from the Franconian period prove that the settlement continued to exist in this period. The abbey was founded by Count Arnaud de Pallars in 1138. A bastide is mentioned in 1273. The Huguenots devastated the abbey in 1568. In the Middle Ages, the place was an exclave of the province of Languedoc. The parish was part of the Saint-Girons district from 1793 to 1801. In addition, Rimont was the capital of the canton of Rimont from 1793 to 1801 and was within the canton of Saint-Girons from 1801 to 2015 . The parish has been assigned to the Arrondissement of Saint-Girons since 1801. On August 21, 1944, the Wehrmacht devastated the village before they withdrew. Eleven people were executed and 152 houses were devastated. This left 231 people homeless.
