Seix ( Occitan Sèish ) is a town in the south of France and a municipality with 702 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the historic county of Couserans (today: Département Ariège ) in the Occitania region . The municipality, which consists of the village of Seix, numerous hamlets and individual farmsteads, borders Spain in the south .
Location and climate
The village of Seix is located at an altitude of approx. 510 m within the Pyrénées Ariégeoises Regional Nature Park on the Salat River, a good 120 km (driving distance) southwest of the city of Toulouse . The Vallée d'Esbints and the uppermost section of the Vallée du Salat are part of the municipality. Large parts of the community are mountainous and forested; the highest point is the Mont Valier . The climate is temperate, in summer also warm; Rain (approx. 800 mm / year) falls over the year.

economy
For centuries, the residents of the community lived on farming as a self-sufficient living . The place Seix formed the mercantile and handicraft center of the area.
history
The area around Seix belonged to the county of Couserans since the middle of the 10th century , but became dependent on the county of Comminges around the year 1180 . The Château de Mirabat is first mentioned in a document in 1280 . During this time the place was an exclave of the province of Languedoc , but the Counts of Foix as well as the kings of Aragón tried to increase their territory. The parish was part of the Saint-Girons district from 1793 to 1801 . In addition, Seix was within the Canton of Oust from 1793 to 2015 . The parish has been assigned to the Arrondissement of Saint-Girons since 1801.
