Bièvres is a French commune with 4639 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Essonne department near Paris in the canton of Gif-sur-Yvette . The inhabitants are called Biévrois .
geography
Bièvres is the northernmost municipality in the Essonne department. It is located on the Bièvre , a tributary of the Seine from which it takes its name. This is derived from a Celtic word that means beaver .
It is connected to the RER line C. Despite its proximity to Paris and Versailles , it has so far been able to withstand the urge to urbanize and retain its rural character.
