Caldas is a municipality ( municipality ) in the Antioquia department in Colombia . Caldas belongs to the metropolitan area of Medellín , the Área Metropolitana del Valle de Aburrá . Caldas is the seat of the diocese of Caldas .

geography

Caldas is located in the sub-region of Valle de Aburrá in the southwest of Antioquia at an altitude of 1750  m above sea level. NN south of Medellín and has an average temperature of 19 ° C. Francisco José de Caldas

In 1616 an indigenous place was founded in the area of ​​today's Caldas. The present municipality goes back to the foundation, which took place in 1840 under the name La Valeria . The place was later named after the freedom hero Francisco José de Caldas .
