The clubs of Divizia A only got in the round of the last 32 teams and had to play away first. From the round of 16 onwards, all games - apart from the final, which was traditionally played in Bucharest - took place in a neutral place. Only one game was played at a time. If this was a draw after 90 minutes, an extension of 30 minutes followed. If after that there was still no decision, the lower class team advanced. If both played in the same league, a replay took place on. In the sixteenth finals, in the event of a tie after extra time, the away team went on one round.
