Die Natter is a German television film by Peter F. Bringmann from 1999. It is the 12th episode of the crime series A strong team with Maja Maranow and Florian Martens in the leading roles.

action

The SEK team observes the real estate manager Groth as he is receiving a group of foreign investors in his castle-like country estate. Groth is suspected of doing money laundering on a large scale and organizing forced prostitution. In fact, he brought Tamara, a young Russian prostitute, with him as a special service for his business friends. After the "meeting", the girl leaves the property in a rather exhausted state. The next day, Verena and Otto interviewed Tamara in their small apartment. Bruises indicate that she was played badly yesterday. Nevertheless, Tamara's fear of a possible deportation and of her pimp Bernie Kollex, who, as Groth's extended arm, oversees the prostitutes and collects the money, predominates. She pretends to run the prostitution on her own account, Groth is only her landlord. The following morning Tamara is found dead in her apartment. The autopsy clearly reveals external influence as the cause of death. Tamara’s friend Ira, also a Russian prostitute who lives in the same house, does not make a statement out of fear of Kollex either. Verena can't help provoking the brazen pimp in front of Ira's eyes to insult him and then arrest him, not without inflicting a few decent wounds on him. In the further investigation, the SEK is working with Dieter Wild from the Murder Commission South, an old colleague of Otto. Otto wildly admits that he himself had often used Tamara’s services and asks him to keep it confidential. There are plenty of suspects. But Groth has an impeccable alibi for the time of the crime and is eliminated as the perpetrator. Kollex was released after being questioned for the same reason. However, he is now on the run after he physically assaulted Verena in front of the police station in order to repay her for his embarrassing arrest. If Tamara's last customer would remain, according to the call list on her cell phone, the lifeguard Schröder. He is arrested after a chase in the indoor swimming pool. Schröder admits that he likes tough SM games, but vehemently and credibly denies the murder. The name Dieter Wild finally comes into play through the telephone lists, a particularly delicate matter. Verena tries to sound out Wild's colleague Heinz Schneidewind. Instead, he gives his colleague Wild a steadfast alibi that they had both been on patrol all night long. Verena has a bad feeling about this alibi.

Late in the evening, on the way home in the car, she receives a call from Wild. He was on the way to Groth's country house to arrest Kollex there. Verena meets with Wild there. When Kollex suddenly rushes towards her at gunpoint, she shoots him in self-defense. However, forensics at the scene of the crime did not find a weapon at Kollex. An internal investigation is initiated against Verena. She is now convinced that Wild is linked to the murder and is also responsible for the disappearance of Kollex's weapon. After Schneidewind has spoken to her conscience again, he leaves the station, obviously pensive. He is the victim of a car accident on the way home by bike. In the laboratory, splinters of paint are found that perfectly match Wild's vehicle. Wild's cell phone can be located, he is at Groth's country estate, where he is talking to Groth about the business together and the situation that has become critical as a result of the police investigation. It turns out that Wild committed the murder of Tamara after she became pregnant and wanted to force him into marriage. Groth and Wild are arrested on the spot. Kollex's weapon is also found in Wild.

criticism

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm think: “Where the story, the dramaturgy and the camera work lack strength and energy, Maja Maranow (' rivals of the racetrack ') and Florian Martens confidently turn the tide. Their game is lively and they complement each other perfectly. ”Conclusion of this episode:“ Limping story, but consistent chemistry. ”
