In contrast to the previous season , the ice hockey league was played on a single track again in 2005/06 . 19 teams took part in the league. At the end of the season the EV Landsberg 2000 and the ETC Crimmitschau achieved promotion to the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga .

Clubs of the ice hockey league for the 2005/06 season

To the top division of the previous year Hannover Indians , EV Ravensburg , Starbulls Rosenheim , Heilbronner Falken , SC Riessersee , SC Mittelrhein-Neuwied , EC Peiting , EV Füssen Leopards , EHC Klostersee , TEV Miesbach , Eisbären Juniors Berlin , Revierlöwen Oberhausen , Stuttgart Wizards and ESV Bayreuth came the two Bundesliga relegated ETC Crimmitschau and 1. EV Weiden . The teams EV Landsberg 2000 ( Bayernliga ), Ratinger Ice Aliens ( Regionalliga NRW ) and the Rote Teufel Bad Nauheim (Regionalliga Hessen) rose from the regional leagues .

The Blue Lions Leipzig went bankrupt before the season . The Mad Dogs Schweinfurt was not granted a license for the Oberliga due to non-compliance with the license requirements. The BSchC Prussia waived the license and was subsequently dissolved. The ESV Hügelsheim moved voluntarily in the Baden-Württemberg League.

On December 30, 2005 , ESV Bayreuth withdrew its team from game operations due to insolvency , whereupon all games previously played against this team were canceled. During the season, Rote Teufel Bad Nauheim GmbH filed for bankruptcy, but continued to play until the end of the season.

mode

The 19 teams played a single round. After this preliminary round, the teams in places 1 with 10 qualified for the main round, the remaining teams took part in the qualifying round. After the conclusion of the main round, the playoffs for the teams placed 1 to 8 followed to determine two promoted teams in the 2nd Bundesliga, while the season was over for the teams in 9th and 10th place. From the qualifying round, the first two teams should qualify for the Oberliga 2006/07. After the planned Regionalliga Süd in 2006/07 did not materialize, however, there was no sporting relegation.

The game was played according to the three-point system. That is, there were three points for a win. In the event of a tie after regular time, the game was extended and possibly decided in a penalty shootout . In this case, each of the two teams received one point and the team that won overtime or penalty shootout another point.

Crimmitschau was ahead of Landsberg because of the better direct comparison (4: 6/7: 2). Hannover was ahead of Ravensburg (7) and Rosenheim (2) because of the better direct comparison (9 points from the games among themselves). Heilbronn was ahead of Riessersee because of the better direct comparison (3: 2 afterwards / 4:3 afterwards). Miesbach was ahead of Berlin because of the better direct comparison (3: 2/6: 3). The ESV Bayreuth went into bankruptcy on December 31, 2005. All previous games, with Bayreuth participation, have been canceled.

The two final winners Landsberg and Crimmitschau were promoted to the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga 2006/07 . The championship title was not played, due to the better placement at the end of the main round, Landsberg was awarded the championship title in 2006.
