Kayseri Erciyesspor (completely: Kayseri Erciyesspor Kulübü ) is a Turkish football club from the central Anatolian city of Kayseri . The team has the nickname "Mavi Ejder" (German: Blue Dragon ) based on its club colors blue-black . The name addition Erciyes refers to the Erciyes mountain , one of the most important landmarks of Kayseri. The mountain is embedded in the club's coat of arms and is also the reason for the club's colors. While black represents the rock of the mountain, blue symbolizes the sky and the third club color, white, represents the snow dome of the mountain.
The club played a total of four seasons in the Süper Lig in the 2000s and 2010s . In the all-time table of the Süper Lig , the club is on 51st place. This makes the club, after the traditional club Kayserispor, the second club from the province of Kayseri to play in the top Turkish league, the Süper Lig. The greatest success in the club's history so far is reaching the Turkish Cup final in the 2006/07 cup season .
history
founding
The history of the Kayseri Erciyesspor club is documented on the club's own website in a contradictory and opaque manner and has changed several times. According to the association, a club called Erciyesspor was founded for the first time in 1932. To what extent this historical Erciyesspor is related to the current club is not mentioned. Because of this historical association, the association has recently given 1932 as the year of foundation in its logo, while 1966 was the year of foundation in the logo until the 2010s.
In 1966 the Erciyesspor , Ortaanadoluspor and Sanayispor associations merged to form the Kayserispor association . It is not clear whether the Erciyesspor , which was merged in 1966, is the Kayserispor , which was founded in 1932. Furthermore, it has not been clarified whether the association founded in 1966 refers to the currently existing Kayserispor . However, the merger in 1966 is very similar to the founding of the existing Kayserispor association. In the second half of the 1980s, the club was then called Kayseri Emniyetspor Erciyesspor ( German Kayseri sports club of the police Erciyes ). The club Kayseri Emniyetspor Erciyesspor then played in the regional amateur league until the 1980s. How and when the split from the historical or current Kayserispor happened is not explained in detail.
Entry into professional football
In the years 1984 to 1987 the club failed to get promoted to the 3rd Futbol Ligi , the third highest and at that time the lowest division in Turkish professional football. For the 1988/89 season , the club, renamed only to Kayseri Emniyetspor and Kayseri Emniyet SK , reached promotion to the 3rd Futbol Ligi and ended its first season in the 3rd division in 12th place in the table. During this season the central authority of the Turkish police , the "Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü" ( German General Directorate for Security ) decided that the police football clubs active in the professional leagues should withdraw from these leagues. Through the efforts of the police chief of Kayseri, Yaşar Gökışık , the club was converted into a privately run club by the start of the 1989/90 season, renamed Kayseri Erciyesspor or Erciyesspor for short and changed to black and white. Under this name, the club ended the 1989/90 season in 10th place in the table.
The third division, multiple name changes and promotion to the 2nd Futbol Ligi
Before its fourth season in the third division, the Kayseri Erciyesspor merged with Kayseri Büyükşehir Belediyespor , the football club of the city administration of the city of Kayseri, to Büyükşehir Belediye Erciyesspor , BB Erciyesspor for short , and changed its colors to blue and black. In the first season under the name BB Erciyesspor, the 1992/93 season , Erciyesspor delivered a head-to-head race with Hatayspor for the third division championship and promotion to the 2nd Futbol Ligi throughout the season. Towards the end of the season, the connection to Hatayspor and the league in 2nd place in the table ended.
For the 1996/97 season, the original name Kayseri Erciyesspor was adopted again. Just one year later, the club was sold to the municipality of Melikgazi , a town and district in the Turkish province of Kayseri . The city administration changed the name to Melikgazi Belediyesi Erciyesspor ( German Melikgazi City Administration Sports Club Erciyes ). The club played under this name for the next two seasons.
In the summer of 1999, the local businessman Hacı Boydak and owner of Boydak Holding bought the club, brought it back to Kayseri, renamed it Hacılar Erciyesspor and changed the club's colors to blue and yellow. In the first season with this name, the 1999/2000 season , Erciyesspor played for the entire season for the championship, ended the season as champions and thus rose for the first time in the club's history to the 2nd Futbol Ligi .
The first years of the second division, another name change and relegation to the third division
Promoted to the 2nd Futbol Ligi, the club finished the first half of the 2000/01 second division season in 1st place in the qualifying round and qualified for the promotion round, which was played in the second half of the season. Here the club was sixth in the table and missed promotion to the Süper Lig , the highest Turkish league.
In 2001 the mayor of Kayseri Mehmet Özhaseki met with the club owner Hacı Boydak and persuaded him to unite his club in community with Kayserispor and thus to form a competitive club. Several Erciyesspor players were handed over to Kayserispor. The Erciyesspor team was then put together with the remaining players and young players from both clubs. This club was then renamed from Hacılar Erciyesspor back to Kayseri Erciyesspor and the club colors were changed back to black and blue.
The 2001/02 season ended the newly formed club under the coach Mustafa Uğur in 18th place and rose to the 3rd division.
Return to the 2nd division
Despite relegation, the club kept Mustafa Uğur as coach. This then led the team to the third division championship and thus to direct promotion back to the second division.
Promotion to the Süper Lig, reaching the cup final and relegation
In the second division season 2004/05 , the club finished the league in 3rd place in the table and thus achieved the first first division participation in the Süper Lig . The club had already reached the second division runner-up in the previous season and decided to take important steps with the Kayseri city council: On the one hand, the competition rights were handed over to the partner club Kayserispor in the summer of 2004 . This was accomplished by both clubs exchanging their names and club colors. Both changes were a measure to allow the city rivals to rise despite the promotion to the 1st Turkish League. Shortly before the start of the winter break of the 2006/07 season, Bülent Korkmaz was signed as the new head coach. Kayseri Erciyesspor reached the Turkish Cup final with Korkmaz for the first time in the club's history of a team from Kayseri . In the final, the Central Anatolians failed unlucky in extra time against the eventual runner-up Beşiktaş Istanbul . By participating in the cup final, the club qualified for the UEFA Cup for the first time in its history . Despite this success under coach Korkmaz, they only finished 17th and were relegated.
Return to the Süper Lig
For the 2012/13 season Osman Özköylü was hired as the new head coach and several players were committed according to his wishes. This newly formed team established itself at the top of the table early on and with a few setbacks led the table confidently until the end of the season. In the end, as champions of the 2012/13 second division season , they were promoted back to the Süper Lig after seven years .
Despite this success, the club's management decided not to continue working with the master coach Özköylü, and replaced him with the Belgian-Turkish coach Fuat Çapa . He had made a name for himself in Turkey in recent years with progressive means. Under Çapa, the club got off to a bad start to the season and finished the first half of the season with twelve points in last place in the table. Due to these developments, the contract with Çapa was terminated by mutual agreement and the German-Turk Hikmet Karaman , known as a relegation battle specialist, was hired . Although the club was not given much chance of relegation by the trade press, the team under Karaman got 25 points and thus managed to stay in the league with confidence. Despite this success, Karaman's contract was not extended at the end of the season.
Troubled season and relegation to the TFF 1st Lig
For the 2014/15 season, the club hired Bülent Korkmaz again as head coach, the coach with whom the club had reached the Turkish Cup final seven years earlier and thus the greatest success in the club's history. Although Korkmaz had not signed an official contract a long time after this press release about his commitment, he already looked after the team at the pre-season preparation camp and was listed on the club's website as head coach. The club signed a name sponsorship agreement with the construction company Suat Altın İnşaat . After that, the club will have the company name in its club name for the duration of the contract and will therefore be called Suat Altın İnşaat Kayseri Erciyesspor .
Korkmaz failed to continue the positive trend achieved by its predecessor Karaman. The team played well and got one win, six draws and only two defeats from the first nine games, but they were in the relegation region. After the 1: 2 home defeat against the direct relegation competitor Eskişehirspor on matchday 10, Korkmaz was relieved of his position as head coach. The German-Turkish Uğur Tütüneker followed Korkmaz . He resigned as head coach after five matchdays in which his team experienced two draws and three defeats. The club's management reacted to this resignation by signing Mehmet Özdilek . This coach also missed the hoped-for upward trend and as a result resigned from his position at the end of March 2015. As the fourth head coach of the season, the club Fatih Tekke and gave him the first coaching job of his career. The inexperienced newcomer and his team were the first to be relegated of the season after the 32nd matchday after four defeats and three draws. Due to this failed relegation, the club returned to the TFF 1st Lig after two seasons.
At the beginning of June 2015, the association announced that the name sponsorship contract with the construction company Suat Altın İnşaat had ended and that the association would henceforth only be called Kayseri Erciyesspor.
Before the end of the 2014/15 season, Erciyesspor and five other Süper Lig clubs received notification through the Turkish Football Association that UEFA would not allow the club to participate in the European Cup in the event of a European Cup qualification due to the opaque financial situation.

In the summer of 2016, the club missed relegation in the TFF 1st Lig and rose from the Süper Lig to the TFF 2nd Lig within two years .
