Location of the community of Fürstenberg in the Holzminden district
Fürstenberg is a municipality in the Holzminden district in the south of Lower Saxony ( Germany ). The community is located on the Weser and on the western edge of the Solling near Höxter and Holzminden . Fürstenberg is a state-approved excursion destination . The Porcelain Manufactory Fürstenberg , founded in 1747, is the third oldest porcelain manufacture in Germany.
history
In 1747, Duke Carl I ordered the establishment of a porcelain factory. This probably also led to the establishment of a postal expedition on the Braunschweig – Holzminden postal route .
From 1807 to 1813 the canton of Fürstenberg existed in the Einbeck district ( Department of the Leine , Kingdom of Westphalia ) and was formed by the Royal Decree of December 24, 1807.
In the middle of the village is Hussmannplatz with a bronze horse, which was created by the artist Albert Hinrich Hussmann (* 1874 Lüdingworth near Cuxhaven - † 1946 Fürstenberg), who fled Berlin . It was flown out at the time of the Berlin Airlift ; for this the legs were sawed off.
During the Cold War , an ammunition and fuel depot (Forward Storage Site) for the Belgian I. Corps from Cologne-Weiden (also for the 43rd Artillery Battalion in Brakel ) was built between Fürstenberg and Boffzen . It existed until 1994.
1996 lived 1338 inhabitants in the municipality.
Until the end of 2010, Fürstenberg was a state-approved resort .
Place name
Old names of the place are around 1350 Vorstenberch, 1369-1370 Vorstenberg, 1399 Forstinberg, 1410 Furstenberge, 1446 Forstenbergk and 1495 Forstenberg. The place name is an education with the basic word "‑berg". The appellative “vörste” (“prince”) is a plausible term because this word often appears in the names of castles and palaces. “Fürst” would be a convincing interpretation, but there is another possible interpretation through the word “First” (“Gable, upper edge”). The prominent position of Fürstenberg on the Kathagenberg would support this interpretation. Ultimately, both interpretations are possible.
politics
Municipal council
After the local elections on September 11, 2016, the municipal council consists of:
mayor

coat of arms
Blazon : "On a blue background a golden (yellow) lion, red armored and tongued next to a silver (white) vase over two golden (yellow) wavy strips."
Reasons for the coat of arms: The coat of arms reminds of the former affiliation to the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel with the colors blue and gold and the lion . The corrugated strips symbolize the Weser and the vase stands for the porcelain industry that has existed in the town for decades. |
flag
Hoisted flag: "The flag is blue-yellow-blue in a ratio of 2: 9: 2 with horizontal stripes with the coat of arms in the middle." |
