International film festival Emden-Norderney
The International Film Festival Emden | Norderney was founded in 1990 and takes place annually on eight days in May and June in Emden and on the East Frisian island of Norderney . The venues include the New Theater in Emden and the Kurtheater Norderney .
program
Each year the festival shows over 100 short and feature films on seven screens. The program focus is on current cinema productions from north-western Europe. Because of its extensive series of current British films, the Emden-Norderney International Film Festival has been a sponsor of British film productions in Germany since 1993. New films from German-speaking countries, portraits of directors and actors, short films and a children's and family program complete the range of films. A large part of the program will be shown in German for the first time, and numerous films will be subtitled for the festival. In addition, workshops, film talks, panel discussions and gala events for the opening and the award ceremony complete the program.
In 2014 over 24,000 spectators attended the festival. Festival director is Rolf Eckard.
Film awards
In the film competitions, the audience usually decides on the winners. The Emden Script Award (founded in 2005 as the Volkswagen Script Award) is awarded by an expert jury appointed in close cooperation with the Grimme Institute .
