About this picture

The Thuringian municipality of Geroda ( spoken Grutsch by the locals ) is located in the northeast of the Saale-Orla district . She is a member of the Triptis administrative community .

geography

There is a small river and several ponds in Geroda. The crow's wood in particular consists of three or more closely spaced ponds with a unique flora and fauna. It starts right on a major country road. Also worth seeing is the former sand pit, which is now a nature reserve with endangered animal and plant species. It is hidden and extends almost as far as Geheege .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1124.

In the agricultural village, the Geroda mills were recorded during a mill inspection in 1682. A grinding mill that was located downstream outside the village on the meadow pond. An oil mill was later built on the edge of the village at the end of a chain of ponds. It was an oil mill made of wooden rammers with a solid foundation. Oil was extracted by the power of water and a lot of noise. By 1870 the pounding was over. The water wheel had done its job. New improved oil presses prevailed. In 1998 the Schlaghaus was canceled. The other mill disappeared about a hundred years ago.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities Geheege and Wittchenstein were incorporated.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on January 16, 1995 by the Thuringian State Administration Office.

Blazon : “In silver with a curved red tip, which is covered with a silver tree stump with a sprouting branch, in front a blue fence field with three stakes and two bars; behind a blue bell swinging diagonally to the right. "

Each field of the coat of arms symbolizes a district: for Geroda, based on the name of the place, a tree stump with a sprouting branch stands as a characteristic of the clearing site. For enclosures, the fence, which symbolically stands for an enclosure, was chosen as a talking motif in the folk etymological interpretation of the place name. The village's church is located in the Wittchenstein district; therefore a bell was chosen as a symbol for the church for this part of the village.

The coat of arms was designed by Manfred Fischer from Goßwitz .
