Birds in the Hallerey

The Hallerey nature reserve is located about five kilometers northwest of Dortmund city center and covers an area of 72.1 hectares .

The nature reserve was placed under protection for the first time on September 12, 1977, expanded in 1989 by a regulatory order and established on January 19, 1996 by the Dortmund-Mitte landscape plan.

description

The lake in Hallerey was created at the beginning of the 20th century by subsidence . Initially, the lake was used for coal washing at the Dorstfeld colliery . The area is an example of the combination of nature and industry.

The lake and swamp area, divided by hedges, is surrounded by dense undergrowth and near-natural wet meadows . Huge climbing plants grow around the trees along the hiking trails. Several rain retention basins and a dump are also part of the nature reserve.

In addition to numerous live Hallerey large butterflies and amphibians ( toad , midwife toad , great crested newt ) rare water birds (partly migrant). Coats , tufted ducks , gray herons and cormorants can be seen here. A large black-headed gull colony is also at home here. Bats also live in Hallerey . The water bat and the noctule bat have been detected here.

The Hallerey serves as a local recreation area for Dortmund and is located in the immediate vicinity of the Wischlingen Revierpark .

Protection goal

The protection goal of the nature reserve is the preservation of communities and habitats of wild plants and wild animal species and the preservation of the landscape due to its rarity.

Rubbish is removed from the area and the areas are prohibited from entering. Water bodies, landscape structures and hardwood cover should be preserved, no further paths for development should be created, natural forest management, necessary fruit tree care and vegetation control are among the necessary measures. An eutrophication should be avoided.
