Katsushika ( Japanese 葛 飾 区 , - ku , the official spelling uses the Kyūjitai form of 葛 , the lower component of which corresponds to that of 曷 ) is one of the 23 districts of Tokyo Prefecture . It is located in northeast Tokyo , the capital of Japan .
history
The district of Katsushika of the city of Tokyo was created on October 1, 1932 from the merger of 7 small towns ( Machi ) and villages ( Mura ) in the district of South Katsushika ( Minamikatsushika-gun ) of the prefecture (then fu ) Tokyo . In 1943, when the city of Tokyo was dissolved, it became a prefecture-level administrative district of Tokyo. On March 15, 1947, Katsushika became a "special" district ( tokubetsu-ku ) with local self-government at the city level.
