The 2012/13 League Cup was the 53rd edition of the League Cup , also known as the Capital One Cup . The tournament started with 92 clubs.
The competition started on August 11, 2012 with the first round and ends with the final at Wembley Stadium in London on February 24, 2013.
First round
The draw for the first round took place on June 14, 2012. The Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers were the only teams from the Football League that only entered the tournament in the second round, as they were the two best-placed teams last season. The other 70 teams in the Football League had to compete in the first round.
Second round
The 13 Premier League clubs that failed to qualify for a European competition last season got involved in the second round .
Third round
From the third round, the seven clubs that had qualified for the European competitions for the current season also had to compete.
