The 3000-meter steeplechase of the men at the 1978 European Athletics Championships was on 1 and 3 September 1978 Stadium Evžena Rošického of Prague held.
The Polish defending champion and Olympic runner-up from 1976 Bronisław Malinowski became European champion . He won ahead of Patriz Ilg from the Federal Republic of Germany. Bronze went to Ismo Toukonen from Finland .
