List of major rock concerts and festivals

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A rock festival is a music festival in which several groups or artists perform and play rock music . It usually takes several days. The first rock festivals were held in the 1960s and were important socio-cultural milestones. From the 1980s onwards, rock festivals were also held, which were not just music events, but aimed to attract attention and raise money for charitable purposes.

In addition to well-known rock festivals, this article also names important rock concerts by individual groups or performers with their bands, possibly with supporting groups. In some cases, key venues are also listed.

Requirements for inclusion in this list are:

  • The festival or concert or the venue has its own article in the German-language Wikipedia.
  • The only exceptions: concerts with at least half a million visitors (example: Rod Stewart on December 31, 1994).

Festivals that take place regularly (such as the Wacken Open Air since 1990) are only listed once, namely with their first event and a reference to the repetition rhythm.
