Biographical Notes

  1. Jacob Fuhrmann also: Furmanus (* 1550 in Liebenwerda, † 1619 in Klöden) was a German educator, scholar and Lutheran theologian.
Fuhrmann had attended the school in his hometown and from December 13, 1568 to February 6, 1573 attended the electoral Saxon state school in Grimma. He then completed a degree in philosophical sciences at the University of Leipzig, where he obtained the academic degree of a master's degree in 1576. In 1577 he became vice principal of the city school in Zeitz and before 1582 he was the principal of the city school in Borna. In 1582 he became Quintus (fifth teacher) at the electoral Saxon state school in Grimma, in 1583 Tertius (fourth teacher) and in 1584 took over the rectorate of the Grimmens educational institution as the successor to his father-in-law. However, his work was not a good star. In April 1588 he moved to the University of Wittenberg and in the same year became rector of the city school in Wittenberg. On July 22, 1592 he was accepted as an adjunct at the philosophical faculty of the Wittenberg University and received the professorship of poetics in August of the same year. In September 1593 he switched to the professorship of Greek language and literature. On September 14, 1595 he was ordained in Wittenberg by Aegidius Hunnius as provost of Klöden, which he remained until the end of his life.
