The 1995/96 Maltese Premier League was the 81st season in the history of the highest Maltese football league . The Sliema Wanderers became champions for the 23rd time .

Compared to the previous season , the promoted Rabat Ajax and FC Żabbar St. Patrick replaced the relegated Pietà Hotspurs and FC St. George’s . Rabat was first class again since the 1993/94 season , St. Patrick for the first time since the 1983/84 season .

The season was played back and forth. There were three points for a win, one for a draw and no point for a loss. In the event of a tie, a decision game was provided for the decision about the championship and the relegation places. The last two placed had to relegate to the First Division.
