Maria Ting Yu Ho ( Chinese  玛丽亚 • 豪 ; born March 6, 1983 in Taipei , Taiwan ) is a professional American - Taiwanese poker player , commentator and presenter .

Personal

Ho came to the United States from Taiwan with her family at the age of four and lived there for a short time in New York . In 1988 she moved to Arcadia, California . In her high school , Ho was a cheerleader . After finishing school, she completed a degree in communication sciences at the University of California in San Diego from 2001 , which she successfully completed in 2005.

Ho is a talented pianist , plays the violin and originally wanted to be a lawyer . In 2009, she and actress Tiffany Michelle took part in the 15th season of the CBS reality television show The Amazing Race , which features a race around the world. Ho lives in Los Angeles .

Poker career

Ho started playing poker in 2002 during her sophomore year of college . She started playing home games with friends and improving her skills. Ho plays on the online poker platform PokerStars under the nickname Femmeonfelt and has also participated in renowned live tournaments since 2005 .

In June 2005 she was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and finished 110th in an event in the No Limit Hold'em variant . She won her first major cash prize two years later when she finished in 38th place as best woman in the 2007 WSOP Main Event for more than $ 230,000 in prize money. Even after that she was regularly seen at the main tournament series in Las Vegas and reached the money ranks at the WSOP Ladies Championship in 2009 and 2010 . In June 2011 , she narrowly missed winning a bracelet and took second place behind Allen Bari in a tournament for her highest prize money to date of more than 540,000 US dollars. At the main event of the WSOP Europe 2011 in Cannes , France , she was again the best woman and came in 27th place, which brought her 32,000 euros in prize money. Aside from the World Series , she won an event in the River Poker Series in late August 2013 with more than $ 100,000 in prize money. At the beginning of July 2014 , she was the woman who stayed in the tournament the longest for the third time at the WSOP Main Event . She placed 77th out of 6,683 players and took home more than $ 85,000. In mid-March 2016, Ho reached the final table at the main event of the World Poker Tour in San José and finished the tournament in sixth place for around 180,000 US dollars in prize money. At the 2016 WSOP , she reached the final round at a shootout event and came in fourth for just under 90,000 US dollars. At the World Series of Poker Europe in the King's Resort in Rozvadov , she reached the final table of the main event as the chip leader in November 2017 and started the final day with six remaining players. There she could not continue her run and was eliminated as the best woman in sixth place for prize money of around 175,000 euros. At the end of February 2018, Ho finished third in the high roller at the LA Poker Classic in Los Angeles for just under 200,000 US dollars. A year later she won the same tournament and secured a prize money of around 275,000 US dollars. In mid-April 2019, Ho reached the final table at the WPT Main Event in Hollywood , Florida , which was played on May 30, 2019 in Las Vegas. There she took third place, which brought her nearly 350,000 US dollars.

In total, Ho has earned more than $ 4 million in live poker tournaments and is one of the best known and best poker players in the world. She is in fifth place in the ranking of the most successful women in terms of tournament prize money . From April to November 2016 , Ho played as team manager for LA Sunset in the Global Poker League and made it through to the playoffs with her team. She also comments on the program The Final Table for the television channel CBS Sports and has hosted the Battle of Malta since 2014 , which is now the most successful poker tournament for amateur and middle-class players in Europe. Ho occasionally takes part in the tournament himself and in 2015 donated five percent of her winnings to the Malta- based refugee aid organization Migrant Offshore Aid Station and called on other winners to do so. In May 2018, Ho was inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame . In early April 2019 she was named Broadcaster of the Year 2018 at the Global Poker Awards .
