Career

Aljoschin began his motorsport career in karting in 1996 and was active in this sport until 2002. At the same time, Aljoschin contested his first races in formula racing in Russian Formula 3 . In the next three seasons he was active in both the German Formula Renault and the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. In 2003, Aljoschin reached 12th place overall in the German Formula Renault, in 2004 he improved to 5th place overall and in 2005 he won the runner-up title. Formula Renault Eurocup Alyoshin was not as successful: In 2003, he was not considered, 2004, he was 17 and in the 2005 season, which he played only half, he was 30th in the A1GP season 2005/2006 denied Alyoshin two races for the Russian team .

In 2006 Aljoschin competed in the Formula Renault 3.5 for Carlin Motorsport and finished eleventh overall. In 2007, Aljoschin stayed with Carlin and celebrated his first victory in Formula Renault 3.5. At the end of the season he finished 13th overall. Aljoschin also made his debut in the GP2 series: After Michael Ammermüller was injured, Aljoschin competed for the ART Grand Prix at the second race weekend of the GP2 series in Barcelona in 2007 and immediately finished sixth in the main race. At the last race weekend of the season in Valencia , Aljoschin competed for the ART Grand Prix again. His team mate on both race weekends was Lucas di Grassi . In the overall ranking, Aljoschin took 25th place with three points. 2008 Aljoschin contested his third season in the Formula Renault 3.5. Again he started for Carlin Motorsport and finished fifth in the overall standings. At a motorsport show in Moscow in 2008, Alyoshin drove through his hometown in a Red Bull Racing Formula 1 car .

In 2009 Aljoschin switched to the revived Formula 2 and started as one of three Red Bull Juniors. With a race win in Oschersleben , he finished third overall at the end of the season. At the end of the season, Red Bull ended the sponsorship of Alyoshin and he returned to Carlin for the 2010 Formula Renault 3.5 season. With victories in Alcañiz , Spa-Francorchamps and Magny-Cours , he won the championship with 138 against 136 points against Daniel Ricciardo . He also took part in a run of the GP3 series for Carlin . As a reward for his championship title in Formula Renault 3.5, Aljoschin was allowed to complete a Formula 1 test day for Renault at the end of the season .

In 2011 , Aljoschin initially stayed with Carlin and joined the team in the GP2 Asia series . He finished 27th overall. Subsequently, in 2011 he was to start for Carlin in the GP2 series. Due to budget problems, he initially lost his cockpit, but was finally reported by Carlin for the first two race weekends. Later in the season it was used for Carlin on two other GP2 race weekends. In the overall ranking he finished 32nd. In the meantime he received a cockpit in the German Formula 3 at Stromos ArtLine , which he did not have to pay because he did development work for the racing team. He took part in four race weekends , during which he won the Trophy classification in seven of the eight races . At the beginning of July, Aljoschin returned to Formula Renault 3.5 and took part in a race weekend for KMP Racing as a substitute for Anton Nebylizki . He also got into the Superleague Formula for the second and final race weekend . Third place was his best result.

In 2012 Aljoschin returned to Formula Renault 3.5 as a full-time driver. He competed for RFR (formerly KMP Racing). At the last race of the season he achieved his best placement with a second place. He finished the season in 13th place. In 2013 , Aljoschin decided on another season in the Formula Renault 3.5. He switched to Tech 1 Racing . With two fifth places as the best results, he finished the season in twelfth place. With 33 to 136 points he was defeated by his team-mate Nigel Melker . In addition, Aljoschin made his debut in GT racing and took part in five races of the Blancpain Endurance Series for SMP Racing in different classes . He was on the podium once in the GT3 Pro Am class.

In 2014 Aljoschin moved to North America for the IndyCar Series . He received a cockpit at Schmidt Peterson Motorsports . He was on the podium once with a second place in Houston . He was also in the lead for a few laps in three races, including the Indianapolis 500 . Aljoschin was seriously injured in an accident during the final training for the last race in Fontana . He turned from being hit by an opponent. As he did so, his car rose. Alyoshin suffered fractures of the ribs and right collarbone, a concussion and chest injuries. He remained conscious and was hospitalized for two and a half weeks. In the championship Aljoschin was the second best newcomer 16. With 372 to 565 points he was internally defeated Simon Pagenaud .

In 2015 , Alyoshin left the IndyCar Series because its sponsor SMP Racing was unable to raise the budget for one season due to economic sanctions against Russia. Instead, Aljoschin was integrated into the endurance program of SMP Racing and competed in the European Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans . Here he was involved in the development of the Russian LMP2 chassis BR01 . In the European Le Mans Series, he and Kirill Ladygin finished fifth in the LMP2 classification. In addition, Aljoschin took part for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in the last race of the IndyCar Series 2015 , the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma , and came in tenth.

In 2016 , Aljoschin returned to Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in the IndyCar Series. In Long Pond , he achieved a podium finish with second place. He finished the season in 15th place overall. In 2017 , Aljoschin was supposed to drive another full season for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, but he and the team ended the collaboration four races before the end of the season.
