Michel Van Aerde

Michel Van Aerde (born October 2, 1933 in Zonnegem ; † August 11, 2020 ) was a Belgian racing cyclist .

In 1954, Michel Van Aerde was the Belgian military champion in road racing. Twice - in 1956 and 1957 - he won the Stadsprijs Geraardsberge . In 1961 he won the title of Belgian champion in the professional road race. In 1962 he took second place behind Rik Van Looy on the Tour of Flanders .

Van Aerde competed seven times in the Tour de France . In 1960 and 1961 he won a stage of the Tour de France, in 1961 he was also 13th overall, in 1962 and 1963 he had to give up.

After the end of his professional career in 1966, Michel Van Aerde opened a furniture shop in Erpe-Mere .
