Ognes is a French commune with 63 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Marne department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Champagne-Ardenne ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement Épernay and the municipality association Sud Marnais founded in 1998 . The inhabitants are called Ognats .
geography
Ognes is 14 kilometers east of Sézanne , 45 kilometers southwest of Châlons-en-Champagne and about 115 kilometers east of Paris in the west of the Champagne sèche , the "dry Champagne". In Ognes the Vaure and the Maurienne converge, from this point on the river is called Superbe . The 7.79 km² area of the municipality is almost woodless except for the alluvial forests on the rivers and is characterized by large-scale fields on a predominantly flat ground relief. Ognes is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Connantre in the north, Corroy in the east, Angluzelles-et-Courcelles in the south and Pleurs in the west.
history
Lords of Ognes as well as of the nearby Thaas were the lords of Du Va . They resided in a castle with a 40 hectare park. The palace and park were destroyed in 1858.
Between 1838 and 1843 an oil mill was installed in gnes. In the beginning, 30 hectoliters of hemp oil and 45 hectoliters of rapeseed oil were produced here. The oil mill operated until the 1940s and was destroyed in the early 1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure
The largest employer in the area is the TEREOS sugar factory, located free kilometers north of Ognes .
15 farms are located in Ognes (cultivation of grain, pulses, oilseeds, sugar beet).
The D6 trunk road from Anglure to Connantre runs through the municipality of Ognes . A few kilometers north of Ognes, Route nationale 4 , which is partially developed like a motorway, runs from Paris to Nancy .
