The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking (also Pippi Longstocking's newest pranks ) is a US-Swedish co-production by Ken Annakin , based on the famous book by Astrid Lindgren . Contrary to what the title suggests, the film is not a sequel, but a remake of the Astrid Lindgren novels.

action

Pippi Longstocking and her father, Captain Efraim Longstocking, are shipwrecked. Pippi is driven by the Gulf Stream to the place where the Villa Kunterbunt stands, her father's unused house. Shortly after moving in there, she befriends the neighborhood children Tommy and Annika.

She experiences numerous adventures with them. So she has to stay away from Ole Mieslich, the real estate agent who wants to buy her house. She also met a man with a helicopter and built her own airplane out of wood. She tests it with Tommy and Annika and ends up with them on a small island where they spend the night. However, after the plane sank in the water, they have to come home on foot. Soon afterwards they drift down the river in barrels. Shortly before they tumble down a waterfall, they are rescued by the helicopter pilot and Annika and Tommy's father with the help of the helicopter and a rope ladder.

When Pippi is back home, the director of the local children's home awaits her there, who has already tried in vain to put Pippi in the children's home. This time Pippi lets himself be persuaded, but is not exactly enthusiastic about the way the teachers treat her, just as they are about their behavior. Later that night she tries to escape through the attic to throw a message in a bottle addressed to her father into the sea, but meets a man named Karlchen (Greg). He made a paste with which you can walk on the wall and the ceiling. Pippi uses this to run down the wall of the house and escape.

When she threw the bottle into the sea and wanted to run back, she saw that the children's home was on fire, triggered by the caretaker of the home who dropped his cigarette on a newspaper. Karl and two children are stuck in the attic. Pippi borrows a rope from the fire department and climbs a nearby power pole to throw Mr. Nilsson, who has tied a rope, through the attic window. He then ties it up so that Pippi can balance on the rope to the window. There she takes the two children in her arms and balances on the rope back to the power pole. But since Mr. Nilsson doesn't dare to go back to Pippi over the rope, Pippi has to go back to the window. When she got Mr. Nilsson, the rope caught fire and tore through. Pippi then falls, but is caught by a jumping mat. The manager apologizes to Pippi for her unjust behavior and lets her move back into the Villa Kunterbunt.

At Christmas, Pippi's father comes back to her and tells her that she is coming with him to Taka-Tuka and becomes princess of the kingdom whose king Pippis father became after he was washed up on the beach. When they are about to leave after winter, Pippi sees that Tommy and Annika are very sad and decides to stay with them.

background

The film, which has some musical elements, was not shot in Sweden but in Florida . The animals, Little Uncle and Mr. Nielson, speak from time to time, in contrast to the film. This was not only caused by the synchronization, but was already the case in the US version of the film, where the voices of Frank Welker and Michael Bell are spoken.

The film was marketed worldwide and was released in addition to the USA and Sweden in Norway , Finland , Germany , Poland , Hungary , Romania , Greece , Italy , France , Spain , Portugal , Argentina , Brazil and Japan .

At the end of the film credits Astrid Lindgren is thanked "for bringing joy and dreams to all children of all ages in the world".

The actress of Pippi Longstocking ( Tami Erin ) was nominated for the Golden Raspberry 1989 as " worst newcomer ". The actress of Miss Bannister ( Eileen Brennan ) was also nominated for this award as a supporting actress.
