The district is located in the southeast of the country.
population
After an administrative reform in 2009, the city and four rural communities formed a district. In 2010 there were 11,764 inhabitants here.
Anspoki
In the district is the small village of Anspoki (German Ansbach or Anspach ) with the ruins of the manor and manor house of the same name. Around 1900 it belonged to the Russian diplomat Konstantin Gulkewitsch. The painters Alexej von Jawlensky and Marianne von Werefkin stayed there in 1901/02 . Andreas Jawlensky , son of Alexej and Werefkin's maid Helene Nesnakomoff, was born there.
