The metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria ( Italian Città Metropolitana di Reggio Calabria ) is a metropolitan city in the Italian region of Calabria . Since January 31, 2016, it has replaced the Province of Reggio Calabria ( Provincia di Reggio Calabria in Italian ). The capital is Reggio Calabria .
In an area of 3,183 km², the metropolitan city has 541,278 inhabitants in 97 municipalities (as of December 31, 2019).
