Name derivation of individual districts
- Langen (old: Longon , also Langon 890, later Langun 1000 and Langene 1150) is first mentioned in 890 in the Werden Urbar . Folckeri and Egilburg had to pay the usual taxes to Werden. At Corvey the tithe people Herideac, Stellmar, Herimar, Bruoder, Hajo, Razo, Aigo, Wennigo and Dejo had to deliver in 1000. The defining word is derived from althdtsch. long = elongated. The endings -ina, -ini, -ine, -inun, -enan, -enun, -um, -un, -ene, -en appear in numerous place names instead of a terminated basic word, without it being possible to decide whether they open go back to the same or several original, old words. There is a general basic word meaning " settlement ". All in all, it was an elongated corridor or settlement. The Schultenhof in Langen was one of five aristocratic estates in the parish of Lengerich and a seat of the "Langen mit den Rauten" family , which has been recorded at the Langen house near Westbevern in the Münsterland since the end of the 12th century .
- Around 1300, the Grumsmühlen estate was owned by the Count of Tecklenburg as a treasure-free and legitimate legacy with a mill shelf . It was sold in 1562 to the Lingen rent master Adolf van Limborch, who lordly expanded the estate with a tower and moats . After the murder of Van Limborch, Grumsmühlen was sold to Ernst Mulert, Drosten from Lingen, in 1572 . This was also ambushed and killed. The tomb of the Mulert family is in the Thuiner parish church. A checkered history followed; finally the property was sold to Joachim von Böselager in 1673 . Since 1923 the estate has been owned by Prince v. Croy.
- Espel (old: Espelo 1150). Determination word from althdtsch. aspa = aspen ; Basic word lo, loh, lohe = light forest. So together, Espelo means aspen tree.
- Rentrup . The qualifier may indicate a source; swell, flow; from rin , cf. old saxon. rennian , old frieze . and old north. renna ; names place with reference to a correspondingly valuable body of water in the value system. The basic word -trup, torpe, thorpe stands for village, settlement.
- Nordholte has the meaning: In the north of the place lying wood.
- Klein-Tirol owes its name to a former restaurant, the Klein-Tiroler-Eck.
- Ruten , Sopenhook : Unknown derivation of the names
