Az-Zuchruf ( Arabic الزخرف az-acclamation  'The pomp') is the 43rd sura of the Koran , it contains 89 verses . The sura is one of the parts of the Qur'an thatwere revealedin the second Meccan period (615–620), with the exception of verse 45, which wasproclaimedin Medina . The title refers to verse 35, in which the useless splendor of this world comesto the fore.

After the introductory basmala , the sura begins with the letters Ḥā Mīm , which are also at the beginning of suras 40, 41, 42, 44, 45 and 46. The first main topic is belief, first in the majesty and wisdom of the Koran, then in God as the creator of heaven and earth, people and angels as servants of God. Verse 7: "And no messenger came to them without their mocking him" is repeated verbatim in Sura 15 : 11. The "two cities" referred to by the Meccans in verse 31 are Mecca and Ta'if . References to the story of the prophets follow : Abraham , Mohammed , Moses and Jesus , the "son of Mary", whose return at the end of time is addressed in verse 61. The final section from verse 78 contains a complaint about the stubbornness of the unbelievers , which culminates in the grammatically incomplete verse 88: "And when he said: 'O my Lord, these are people who do not believe!'"
