adh-dhariyat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Adh-Dhariyat ( Arabic الذاريات, DMG aḏ-Ḏāriyāt  ' Who stir up') is the 51st sura of the Koran , it contains 60 verses . The sura was proclaimed in Mecca , its first part, possibly up to verse 23, in the first Meccan period (610–615), the continuation, however, shortly after 615. The title refers to the first verse.

Similar to the beginning of many other suras, the first four verses after the introductory Basmala consist of a series of oaths, in which one can think of winds or angels, and which herald the judgment of God . The middle section with verses 24–46 describes God's dealings with Abraham and Lot , Moses and Pharaoh , ʿĀd and Thamud . The final part from verse 47 emphasizes the omnipotence of the only God, creator of heaven and earth, jinn and men.
