history

The Verbandsgemeinde Altenkirchen (Westerwald) came into being with the Eighth Administrative Simplification Act of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, which was promulgated on July 28, 1970 by the then Prime Minister Helmut Kohl and came into force on November 7, 1970, from the previous Verbandsgemeinden Altenkirchen and Weyerbusch , which again emerged on October 1, 1968 from the former offices of Altenkirchen and Weyerbusch .

The community of Weyerbusch with its 22 communities had around 5,600 inhabitants and thus did not reach the target figure of 7,500 inhabitants per community as given by the state government. The local communities of Giershausen and Ziegenhain , which are part of the Weyerbusch community , were incorporated into the Flammersfeld community in 1970. The independent community of Dieperzen was finally incorporated into Altenkirchen on June 10, 1979 at its own request.

The Verbandsgemeinde Altenkirchen (Westerwald) was the legal successor of the Verbandsgemeinden Altenkirchen and Weyerbusch.
