Toolmaker of the year

Toolmaker Award of the Year.

Toolmaking of the Year is an award in the toolmaking sector that has been given annually since 2004 and is given in the lead by the WZL machine tool laboratory at RWTH Aachen University and the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT) in cooperation with several partners as part of the Excellence in Production (EIP) competition. On the occasion of the tenth anniversary in 2014, the award received a new design. Tool shops from all areas from all over the German-speaking area are eligible to participate.

Course of the competition

In several selection rounds, finalists are initially selected who are assigned to the four categories of internal toolmaking with less than 50 employees, internal toolmaking with more than 50 employees, and external toolmaking with less than 50 employees and external toolmaking with more than 50 employees . Internal or external describes the companies' market access, i.e. whether sales are primarily generated within their own group or with external customers.

For each category, a category winner is determined from the group of finalists, and from these, the overall winner is determined. In order to participate, companies must undergo an online survey and then an on-site audit . A final overall assessment is made by a jury made up of experts from universities, business and politics.

The award ceremony takes place every autumn in the historic coronation hall of Aachen city hall . On the day after the award ceremony, the international colloquium Toolmaking with a Future , also organized by Fraunhofer IPT and WZL of RWTH Aachen University, is traditionally held .
