The Yamaha XT 660 R is a motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer Yamaha . The Enduro was first presented to the press in 2003 on the French circuit, Circuit Paul Ricard , and will be assembled at MBK Industrie in France. The abbreviation XT stands for Crosstrail, the manufacturer code is DM 014.
Technical specifications
With the travel enduro XT 660 Z Ténéré and the Supermoto XT 660 X, the Enduro has two sister models of similar construction with the same drive. This is the fourth generation of the XT series after the air-cooled XT 500 and XT 600 and the water-cooled, five-valve XTZ 660 .
engine
The liquid-cooled single - cylinder engine generates a nominal output of 35 kW (48 HP) and a maximum torque of 60 Nm at a speed of 5250 min −1 from a displacement of 660 cm³ . The ceramic-coated cylinder made of aluminum has a bore of Ø 100 mm, the forged piston has a stroke of 84 mm with a compression ratio of 10: 1. The compact cylinder head has a chain-driven, roller-bearing, overhead camshaft (SOHC) , which controls two inlet and two outlet valves via forked roller rocker arms . The four-stroke engine , which is inclined slightly forwards, has electronic fuel injection with transistor ignition. A balance shaft reduces vibrations.
The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.4 s and reaches a top speed of 160 km / h.
landing gear
The chassis is based on a tubular single-loop frame with double steel upper cables and has a steel box swing arm with 200 mm of spring travel at the rear. The preload of the central spring strut can be adjusted five times. The front wheel is guided by a telescopic fork from Paioli with a Ø 43 mm stanchion diameter and 225 mm suspension travel. The oil tank is located in the steering head area. The wire-spoke wheels with aluminum rims and studded tires have a diameter of 21 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear.
The braking forces are transferred to a floating brake disc with a diameter of 298 mm on the front wheel . The rear wheel is braked by a two-piston floating caliper, and the braking forces are transmitted by a brake disc with a diameter of 245 mm.
The dry weight is 165 kg, the maximum payload 186 kg.
Fuel supply
The mixture is formed by electronic fuel injection. The ignition is digitally controlled by a transistor-controlled spark plug. The manufacturer recommends using unleaded petrol with a knock resistance of at least 95 octane. The fuel tank has a volume of 15 liters, of which 5 liters are in reserve.
Electrics
The starter battery has a capacity of 8 Ah and supplies the electric starter . The alternator consists of a three-phase generator with permanent magnet and generates an electrical output of 291 watts.
Exhaust system
The exhaust after-treatment is carried out since the 2007 model year by two regulated catalytic converters with secondary air system (unregulated catalyst in model year 2004 to 2006) and fall below the limit values of emission class Euro-3 . The two stainless steel exhaust manifolds run under the engine and each end in a rear silencer made of the same material.
Reviews
“The first few meters with the new“ R ”are initially not noticeably different from the old XT. It comes as no surprise that the new one, too, cuts a good figure in curvy terrain as well as on gravel roads, despite its dry weight of almost 165 kilos. What immediately stands out positively is the engine: Both the XT 660R and the X version have a completely newly developed liquid-cooled single cylinder. "
“And so the 189 kg XT 660 R storms towards the horizon. Can be whirled through the tightest of turns almost like a mountain bike and leaves the subject of the limit entirely up to the rider. Lean angle? If it scratches, the XT driver is mostly on the nose. "
